How I Got Here . . .
I Was Minding My Own business When I Was Turned Into a White-Supremacist Patriarchal Cisgender Pig
5/15/22- Recently Elon Musk (REEEEEE!!!!!!) tweeted a graphic purporting to show that the Left has moved so far left that people who used to be moderate are now perceived as being far right-wing.
That’s me. I morphed from a tie-dyed-in-the-wool Leftie (see below) in my youth to becoming a crusty conservative crank in 2022. Without taking a step.
Here I was circa 1971:
When in high school, I gave a “green” presentation on the first Earth Day. I was the only white kid in our school’s first Black History class. Smoked a lot of pot. I drove a 1950 Buick Special painted red, white, and blue à la Easy Rider and sold skunky dope out of the trunk.
At the time I believed in limited government, free speech, and was against war.
Today I believe in limited government, free speech, and am against war.
I live in Colorado where pot is legal. I don’t use it any longer, but I will admit that, for me, legalization has taken all the cachet out of being a doper.
In 2011, I self-published a book entitled Squeezed. Rear-Ended by American Politics, in which I described myself as caught between Leftist and Rightist politics— a guy in the middle. This was one of the fastest-moving books on Amazon. It debuted at approximately the six-millionth fastest-selling book on the platform and within a few months was the thirty-seven-millionth. I don’t think I sold a single copy to someone who didn’t know me.
Since writing that worst-seller, I have witnessed the Left relentlessly attacking conservatives, and particularly, Christians. I’m not religious myself, but this has pushed me ever further toward Conservatism— though I haven’t changed by political point-of-view very much. The Left has gone nuts and left me behind.
I didn’t get red-pilled. I got red-shifted.
Now, as they say over at The Federalist, I’m anxious for the fray.
Hi. I found you because they want to change the name of mother to "birthing person". I want to protest but I do not know how? I read your article and hoped you can help me make my voice known.
Red-shifted. Love that expression.
